Ballochmyle Viaduct

The Ballochmyle Viaduct is the highest extant railway viaduct in Britain. It is high, and carries the railway over the River Ayr in East Ayrshire, Scotland, close to the towns of Mauchline and Catrine.
==History==
The viaduct was designed by John Miller of Edinburgh for the Glasgow, Paisley, Kilmarnock and Ayr Railway.〔 This railway was the northern part of the line from Glasgow to Carlisle via Kilmarnock. The resident engineer for the construction was William McCandlish and the contractors were Ross & Mitchell.〔
The stone bridge was begun in March 1846 and the last stone placed on 2 March 1848, but the railway itself was not completed until 1850.〔
At the time of its construction it was the largest masonry arch in the world.〔 The viaduct was listed as a Category A listed building in January 1989.〔
It features in the 1996 film Mission: Impossible.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Ballochmyle Viaduct to become 'national historical civil engineering landmark' )〕 In 2014 it was designated a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark by the Institution of Civil Engineers.
